Day 15: Love
“…It’s a wonder God didn’t lose his temper and do away with the whole lot of us. Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, he embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ. He did all this on his own, with no help from us!...” - Ephesians 2:1-6 MSG
My son recently got a “Thomas the Train” train track set as a gift. I opened up the box, took out the pieces, laid them out, and followed the instructions. This was all done in secret as he took his nap. When he woke up and saw the train tracks, his face was filled with joy as he walked around amazed. At that moment my heart was filled with happiness. I love my son so much and it always brings me joy to see my son happy.
That is the picture I have in my mind of God’s love towards us. As He is pleased to see us enjoy the gift of salvation, grace, and the Holy Spirit. We didn’t have to do anything to deserve this love. It came at a cost, but not to us.
Sometimes we will try to work hard at paying God back with our devotions, prayers, fasting, and serving. We do it as if we were making payments towards credit cards, and not out of love for Him. We fear that we will disqualify ourselves from His love if we don’t do those things. The truth is regardless of whether we do that or not God still loves us the same way. His vision of us is untainted, because of Jesus.
Do we remember this amazing love in the middle of all our busy lives, filled with problems and countless prayer requests? The end of the story is, my son always runs and hugs and kisses me. He does that because he feels the love my wife and I give him. If we feel this love from the Father, can’t we, from this overflow of love, love Him back too?
Today I choose to receive Your love freely. I remember Your love is unconditional. Thank you that I am a child before I am a servant. Nothing I do will ever separate me from your amazing love. So I will walk with joy today knowing You, my Father, loves me.
