Day 17: Peace
“Rejoice in union with the Lord always! I will say it again: rejoice! Let everyone see how reasonable and gentle you are. The Lord is near! Don’t worry about anything; on the contrary, make your requests known to God by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving. Then God’s shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua.” - Philippians 4:4-7 (CJB)
There is much going on in our world and communities that could steal our joy and peace, and sometimes we do let it. But we can easily get that peace back. Paul wrote to the church at Philippi to give encouragement and instruction on maintaining their peace. The first thing Paul says is to rejoice in union with the Lord always! I don’t know about you, but I am the best version of me when I am in union with the Lord.
Second, Don’t worry about anything, but on the contrary come to God in a heart of thanksgiving and let your requests be known. When we find ourselves in worry and fear it is really communicating that we do not know what God’s will is in these situations and that there may be some distrust. Find out what God said about your situation in His word.
Let’s break this last verse down a bit more. Then God’s Shalom (completeness, fullness and wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety, soundness, tranquility, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, absence of agitation and discord) that passes all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ, the one who delivers, saves and rescues.
I am in union with You Lord, and rejoice at all times because You are in control! I turn my worries and fears into prayers and give you permission to work on my behalf. I walk in God’s shalom and my heart and mind are safe because I am in unity with God.
