Day 24: Influence
“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:13-16 (MSG)
Did you know that your life has a purpose? Your life was never meant to be dim or dark. In fact, your life is actually supposed to be radiant. The word radiant means to glow. There is a story in the Old Testament of when Moses came down from Mt. Sinai with the 10 commandments that his face was actually glowing. Each and every day our lives should emit the presence of God to those around us. Many people live in a dark world. They exist in lives where at times can seem hopeless.
What would happen if today you decided to be a light in someone’s life? What could happen if you allowed the light of God to shine through you at your workplace today? Is it possible that your purpose for going to work is greater than receiving a paycheck? What if your purpose today was to shine light everywhere you go? The more time that we spend in God’s Word, our lives are lit up. The more time you spend with Jesus and His Word, your life illuminates more and more.
Today, make a decision that you are going to let your light shine. Make a decision to be the light at the end of someone’s tunnel. Don’t hide what God has put in you. You are on mission today to be the light of the world. You are here to bring light into your community. You are here to be a light bearer. Use your life as one that influences others towards a relationship with Christ by being the light in a dark world.
Lord, today I commit to bring your light into every place that I go. I declare that I will no longer hide this light. I will be a light bearer. I will spread hope and joy on my job, with my family, and in my community. Thank you Lord for choosing me and giving me a purpose.
