New England Women's Convention 2007 Recap
By Laura Laing
This year has been declared, “The Year of the Open Door,” and the ladies of New England blew the doors wide open at the New England Women’s Convention! The lovely Marriott Mystic Hotel and Spa in Groton, CT served as the location for this year’s convention.
The convention started off with a bang as Anna McCoy opened the convention by teaching about sound. She defined sound as the vibration of His voice uniquely perceived and understood. “When you hear that sound, change is inevitable,” she said. Mrs. McCoy’s unique sense of humor brought us lots of laughter, but her message of heeding His voice and acting upon it imparted a desire in us to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives.
The women of New England are always delighted to hear the dynamic teaching of IFC’s very own Verna Del Turco! In her message, “The Unstoppable Woman,” Pastor Verna taught on five women in the Bible who wouldn’t quit! We were encouraged not to let sickness, fear, past sins, debt, or negativity stop us.
Rev. Kate McVeigh was new to the NEWC, but she is no stranger to the things of God. On Friday morning she encouraged us to “Banish Discouragement!” She shared about three of the voices that will come to discourage: the voice of the devil, the voice of other people and our own voice.
While we were enjoying the ministry of the word on Friday morning, New England’s teen ladies were treated to a special service of their own with Rev. Anna McCoy. She taught and held a question and answer session. Her direct answers and sense of humor were well received by those in attendance. The young ladies came together again after Friday night’s service for some fun, food and fellowship.
On Friday evening, Rev. McVeigh encouraged us to “Release Our Faith for the Big!” With the angels at work, combined with the power of faith released through speaking, this truly will be the year of the open door!
Saturday morning the ladies were treated to a word from the NEWC co-host, Rev. Louise Roberts. She encouraged us that God never leaves our destiny in someone else’s hands. We were charged with the words, “Refuse to let the past determine your future!” and reminded to “walk in peace” and then go for it!”
The weekend’s events closed with Rev. Barbara Arbo reminding us that our future is bright because He’s in our future! We are to be established in righteousness and continually cry out to God and we will see His plan come to pass in our lives!
One event that marked us all was the sharing of testimonies at pre-service prayer on Saturday morning. Four ladies shared how the NEWC had changed their lives. One in particular was the testimony of a woman who had come to the convention last year against her doctor’s orders because she was having a miscarriage. She came, believing God for a miracle. She returned this year with pictures of her beautiful, healthy son! While we were treated to some wonderful teaching and inspirational worship, the most amazing thing is the untold lives that are changed, restored, and healed every year as a result of our convention.
