Couples Fellowship

By Ron & Ronette Ryder

On Friday, April 13, 2007 we attended IFC’s Couples Fellowship and had an absolute blast! The evening began with mingling with other married couples and being treated to fine Italian pastries, coffee, tea, punch, and fresh fruit. It was so wonderful to have a time of fellowship with so many precious friends, some of whom we may only get a chance to wave at on Sunday mornings. Not only was this event a time to catch up with old friends, but it was a time of building new relationships and meeting new couples.

After the refreshment hour was over, Pastors’ Jonathan and Verna, who “tag-teamed” their message, taught on taking your marriage to the next level. All who attended would agree that the message was admonishing, yet, filled with a light-hearted humor. Let’s face it, our pastors know how to be real!

The message points were, “Listen Up,” “Grow Up,” “Double Up,” “Wise Up,” “Let Up,” and “Lighten Up.” As our pastors shared with us from their hearts they taught us that “Great marriages are made through great time and investment” and that “God wants your life to be a wonderful, God-glorifying, fulfilling life of joy.” We learned to never let events and circumstances of the past or present determine our future. The small things we do are what keep our marriage fresh. We were also encouraged to “focus on what is working, resist negativity and count right!” Lighten up and don’t take life so seriously. Enjoy every season of life!

We are blessed to have pastors who take time to help us develop our marriage and give us tips and insight on how to strengthen our relationships with our spouses. It was an unforgettable evening!
